Feel the real Jazz, Jazz Session department.

If you want to study real Jazz, go to Jazz Session department. You can learn logic of music, play jazz, and plays improvise music in this club.

I sometimes goes to this club, “Jazz Session department”, to study more about music logic. There are no teacher, but friendly Kanda student, Mr. Nakata will teach you what is the music logic. I went to workshop couple time; I thought I had learned couple things. Also we can play music at this club too. Mostly they are playing standard jazz not only in Japanese songs, but music from all over the world. Many people thinks jazz is western thing, but there are Japanese too. For example, Hitomi Uehara (Pianist), Sadao Watanabe (Saxophone), Chie Ayato (Pianist, Vocalist) and many of people are playing jazz in Japanese music scene. For the people whom going to “Jazz Session department”, they will lend you jazz CD, to feel what kind of jazz you want to play. After you decide what instrument to play, you will practice more and more.

This club was organized in last September. So this club is quite new club in Kanda University. It is the first time to participate Hamakaze-festival this year. The yearly event of this club is to perform once a month (usually it is held at Dance-Square). Sometimes, professional jazz player comes to this performance, which means it is the chance to listen real jazz music in Kanda University!!! There are about 6 people to do activities on Tuesday and Thursday from 5th period to 8 o’clock (Place is unstable, that sometimes in ping-pong gym, or their club room). Meeting is held at Tuesday lunchtime. If you want to join this club, please send E-mail to 2056109(@)kuis.ac.jp (Mr. Nakata).

Many of you think Swing Gang Jazz seminar when you hear about jazz music in Kanda University. The difference of those two clubs is the densities of improvise music play. In this club (Jazz Session department), they will do more improvise music than in Swing Gang Jazz seminar. Although, in some music band of Swing Gang Jazz seminar plays jazz and play improvise music (like in a part of solo playing). Mr. Nakata also says that the aim of this club is to learn more detail about music, to keep playing music after graduate Kanda University. He said the jazz was the good material for learns about music too.

Massmissile

This time, I interviewed one of my classmates since last year, Mariko.
I asked her to talk about her favorite band and she gave her willing consent to my
request.

The Massmissile is necessary for her since she met them three years ago. Thanks to
them, she could make more friends and expand her radius of action. They changed her
sense of value, a way of thinking and even her life!!

The Massmissile was formed in 2000.
Vocal: Yokkun
Guitar: Katchan
Bass: Yo-suke
Keyboard: Anchan
Drums: Takechan
Katchan and Anchan is real brother!

Their lyrics are all Japanese and you may hear the vocal; Yokkun’s dialect (He is
from Kagawa). His MCs on the stage are always passionately and moved audiences to
tears. She thinks that friendship between their fans is one of their attractions.
She often goes to live concert to watch their performance and meet her fellow Mass-
lover. (She calls themselves “Mass-kko”♪) She went to the concert only in Tokyo
and Saitama since she graduated from high school. But now, she goes Chiba, Kyoto
and Nagoya and it is more than 30times in all. She is planning to go to Osaka in
this summer vacation!! I respect her heartily.

Her favorite songs are…

1. Nakama no uta (Song of fellows)
2. Ima (Now)
3. Kyoukasho (Textbook)
4. Ichininmae (Full-fledged)
5. Key point
6. Ganbare janakutte (Not cheer up)

You Wanna Rock? Vol.2

I wrote about summer music fest before. Have you decided to go to fest? If you go, you have to wear band-tee and appeal your passion for your favorite band! No need to be ashamed to do that. hahaha:) What? You don’t have it!?

Well, you should go to MusiCulture. The shop is located in Shibuya and deals in mainly merchandises of 50’s~present artists. They are Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Green Day, Oasis…There is no end. Any way, if you go there, I’m sure you’ll find what you want! Of course, they have many goods of the artists that are coming to Japan this summer. They handle not only band-tees but accessories, posters, magazines, books and sundries. Plus, you may see valuable displays :) I love this shop! You’ll also like it.

Bands to check now!

Well, I'd like to introduce some great bands getting popular lately
and I hope you like them.

1. Mystery jets
You've probably heard of this band from UK, they made a big splash with their cover of Bloc Party's "Pioneers" and then made another splash with their song "You Can't Fool Me Dennis".

2. Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
Since this is his first solo album, "The Eraser", is a bit different from the sound of Radiohead. It sounds like more pop and electronic. It doesn't mean he's got a problem with his band, so don't worry about it! They are releasing their new album next year. The album will be released on July 10th.

3.The Raconteurs
The White Stripes and The The Greenhornes are united! Well, actually not as a band, only Jack White and some members from The Greenhornes made a band, which is The Raconteurs. It's not just side project. I'm sure this band survive long time.

Do you know “ELLEGARDEN”??

Have you ever heard about a band “ELLEGARDEN”? I love their songs and go to their live concert. Then, I’ll tell you little more about them. One of the members Takeshi Hosomi who sing and plays the guitar is the alumnus of KUIS. His pronunciation is really nice and I’m very proud of that and respect him.

December 1998, ELLEGARDEN was formed in Chiba. Their lyrics are both in Japanese and English, but English songs are in the majority. They had released 11 CDs and 3DVDs so far and going to release new single and DVD on August 9.

I think their songs are kind of rock, punk and emotional.
My favorite songs of ELLEGARDEN are...

1.Jitterbug(Japanese)
2.Starfish(Japanese)
3.Day of Wind(Japanese)
4.Marry Me(English)
5.The Autumn Song(English)
6.Space Sonic(English)

If you've never listened to their songs, I recommend you to listen to these
songs above.

Lastly, I often wear ELLEGARDEN’s T-shirt, so please talk to me whoever
likes ELLEGARDEN!!
